Building People. Designing Systems. Unlocking Potential.
Dr. Raymond D. Appleberry, Jr. is an educational leader, systems architect, speaker, researcher, and founder of AppleberryEdu. For more than two decades, he has dedicated his career to helping students, educators, leaders, and organizations discover what is possible when people, systems, and purpose are intentionally aligned.
His work spans district leadership, special education, organizational development, behavior intervention, leadership coaching, and educational consulting. Whether leading systemwide initiatives, advising executive teams, or speaking to educators across the country, his mission remains constant:
To help people discover the best within themselves and create systems where others can do the same.
Every chapter of Dr. Appleberry's journey has prepared him for the next.
Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, he first learned leadership through athletics. As a multi-sport athlete, he developed the discipline, resilience, and teamwork that would later define his leadership philosophy. After continuing his athletic career at Holmes Community College and Jackson State University, he entered education with plans to coach.
That plan quickly evolved into something much greater.
Working with students facing significant behavioral, emotional, and academic challenges, he discovered his life's calling—not simply to teach students, but to help them recognize the potential others often failed to see.
That belief continues to shape every aspect of his work today.
Dr. Appleberry often describes his professional journey with six defining roles:
Each stage represents a different way of creating impact.
As an athlete, he learned discipline.
As an artist, he learned creativity and connection.
As an educator, he learned service.
As an leader, he learned how to align people, systems, and purpose.
As an scholar, he learned to bridge research with practice.
As an architect, he continues building systems that empower people and organizations to thrive long after the leader leaves the room.
Today, his work focuses less on solving isolated problems and more on designing sustainable systems that help people discover they are designed for more.
Throughout his career, Dr. Appleberry has served in instructional and district leadership roles focused on improving outcomes for students with disabilities and strengthening educational systems.
His leadership experience includes:
He has partnered with educators, multidisciplinary teams, families, and campus leaders to build sustainable structures that support academic achievement, behavioral success, social-emotional growth, and post-secondary readiness.
Rather than focusing solely on compliance, his work emphasizes capacity building—developing leaders, strengthening teams, and creating systems that continue to improve long after implementation.
